The 27th World Economic Forums was held in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal from the 3rd -5th of May gathered African leaders to have a dialogue on how the African continent can be developed economically.
The forum aimed at bringing together African leadership from across all various industries to come up with strategies and ideas that will see Africa having an inclusive growth in economy.
This year’s theme was more focused on driving economic transformation in Africa through an inclusive role models.
The concept of inclusive growth and many other issues critical to Africa’s long-term development were covered in the Meeting’s programme. These included the education, skills and employment; entrepreneurship, energy, infrastructure and development finance, combating, adapting to and building resilience against climate change; and science, technology and innovation
Another highlight that was tabled in the forum was to get the land back to the people as the strongest infrastructure that will help people to be able to start their business like agriculture and land properties. The improvement of African education in order to produce highly skilled youth to partake or play an integral part in improving the economy of the continent.
Speaking on the WEF Africa 2017, The President Jacob Zuma highlighted the importance of the youth participating in building the a successful Africa.
“It is absolutely important not to believe that for us to succeed, it is other people who must build. The youth itself must participate, to change the future for themselves together with the elders,”
“The critical point is that you are able to identify the destination and commitment, and then work on what is the best vehicle or methods to achieve that would help you best shape the future.” Zuma said.
